Why we ask for access — and what we do with your data.
Transparency first. Ask Iyad only requests the minimum Google account permissions needed to run the features you signed up for. Below is a plain-English breakdown of every permission we request and exactly how we use it.
Google Account & Google Drive Access
Ask Iyad optionally connects to your Google account for two things only: secure single-sign-on (login), and storing the files your batch uploads on your own Google Drive instead of a paid third-party server. This keeps our service free for every Bangladeshi student.
Why we need it: Used only for secure single-sign-on (login). We display your name and avatar on your dashboard and in study rooms so your classmates know who posted a file or deadline. Email is used for account recovery and important service notices only — never for marketing.
Why we need it: The drive.file scope is the narrowest-possible Drive permission. Ask Iyad can only read, modify, or delete files that you or your room members upload through Ask Iyad itself. We cannot see, read, or access any other files already in your personal Drive (e.g. your personal photos, personal documents, old PDFs you did not upload via our app). Uploaded files are stored on a folder in your own Drive, keeping storage free for students.
Why we need it: The Ask Iyad AI tutor works by reading the slides / notes / PDFs that your room has uploaded through the app, then answering questions specifically about those materials. Files already in your Drive that were not uploaded via Ask Iyad are never read, indexed, or sent to the AI.
Explicitly out of scope: Ask Iyad does not request scopes for Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Photos, or any personal Google service beyond the two items listed above. If you ever see a consent screen asking for more than account info + drive.file, please report it immediately to helpmaskiyad@gmail.com.

Signing up, browsing public rooms, joining rooms, uploading materials, viewing class routines, tracking deadlines, and using the daily Ask Iyad AI quota are completely free for every student in Bangladesh. The platform is designed to stay free for core use by storing user-uploaded files on each user's own Google Drive instead of costly storage servers.
Yes — Bangla is a first-class citizen on Ask Iyad. The Ask Iyad AI tutor understands and answers naturally in both Bangla and English. You can ask questions like "osmosis r diffusion er difference bujhaye de" or type in full Bengali script, and Iyad will reply accordingly. Room names, materials, and deadlines can all be written in Bangla.

Great question. Short answer: to keep the service 100% free for Bangladeshi students, and no — we cannot see your personal files.
Ask Iyad requests the drive.file scope, which is the narrowest Drive permission Google provides. With this scope, we can only interact with files that you (or your room members) uploaded through Ask Iyad itself. We cannot read, list, modify, or delete files already in your personal Drive — your photos, personal documents, old PDFs, etc. are completely invisible to us.
You can revoke this access at any time from the Plugins page inside Ask Iyad, or directly from Google Account → Third-party apps.
